Clearing The Path: Why the First Acne Facial Appointment Comes at a Premium

It comes as a shock to new clients, and even to some estheticians when I tell them I no longer do one-off acne facials.  If you want to see me in your quest for clear skin, you have to at least commit to my introductory acne facial which is 45 minutes, comes with homecare, and costs $235.

The reason I transitioned to this model is because I was really getting frustrated with getting new acne clients, who wanted clear skin after one facial, but weren't willing to put in the work outside of the treatment room.  We all know 80% of clear skin results come from what they're doing at home, with our guidance of course.

The frustration came about because I'd have repeat clients who couldn't understand why they weren't seeing improvement in their skin, yet continued to wear the same pore clogging makeup and drink the same energy drinks.  I also worried about what they may say to others about my inability to help them with their skin, even though it was likely their fault.

So I implemented a plan to protect my reputation, and to protect my sanity 🤪

I realized if I raised the cost of my initial facial I would attract those who are serious about getting their skin clear.   $235 isn't the most expensive facial, but it's also not a drop in the bucket.   To add value, and to get them on the right track I also provide them with three skincare products chosen specifically for their skin.  The products always change depending on the client's needs.  They also get a list of acne safe makeup, and acne safe haircare, all of which I was able to get from the MBK acne detective course

Before they leave I get them scheduled out for their next few appointments, which are $145 and do not include any product.  The next few appointments will either be an Inflacure treatment, or Clear Peel, or a combination of both. 

Later in the day I send them an email going over what we discussed, a reminder of how to use the products, and also leave them with some words of encouragement. 

If you're an esthetician who is getting frustrated with repeat clients who want clear skin, but aren't putting in the work, I totally get it, and recommend trying this out.
