Behind the Brand: A Conversation with Jake Sun of DERMATHOD

I recently sat down with Jake Sun, founder of DERMATHOD, to talk about his journey and the vision behind his brand. I'm excited to share our conversation which touched on his inspiration, challenges, and what’s next for DERMATHOD.

 

What prompted you to create DERMATHOD?

It’s hard to believe I’ve already spent 20 years in the cosmetics industry! 

When I first ventured into overseas marketing around 2010, it marked a major turning point for me. I had the opportunity to experience countless brands and products, but the real challenge was introducing not only my brand’s creations but also managing the OEM process for international buyers.

As overseas buyers began placing OEM orders, I found myself involved directly in every aspect—from concept development, ingredient selection, design, packaging, ordering, production, to logistics. Those years gave me hands-on experience in nearly every corner of the industry.

Through this process, I became more than someone selling products—I grew into someone who creates new stories through cosmetics.

To me, beauty is far more than a surface-level fix. After years of fieldwork and constant challenge, I began dreaming of a brand with the genuine power to transform skin. Of all the products I encountered, it was microneedling’s potential that truly inspired me and sparked the idea for DERMATHOD.

DERMATHOD is the culmination of my experience and scientific approach—a brand infused with the lessons and passion of my twenty years.

Ultimately, I hope DERMATHOD helps each person become the hero of their own skin story.



What inspired your branding?

I have always valued exploring the new and refusing to settle for the ordinary. DERMATHOD’s branding embodies this spirit. Our slogan, “The New Method to Solve Skin Problems,” reflects our commitment to breaking away from conventional approaches and offering innovative, effective solutions for skin concerns.

I believe a brand should be more than just a product line. DERMATHOD seeks to support our customers by delivering scientific and creative solutions that truly transform skin, while also being easy and convenient for everyday use.

The inspiration of a “new method” represents DERMATHOD’s identity of continuous research and evolution. We combine technology and emotion to provide a personalized, attentive experience that addresses each customer’s unique skin needs—this is the heart of this brand.


What are three words you feel embody your brand?

If I had to choose four words that embody DERMATHOD, they would be 'Creative', 'Cosmetics', 'Convenience', and 'Consumers'. _ [My Company name is 'COSPLAN' ☺️!}

'Creative' connects deeply with our constant pursuit of newness and uniqueness. Instead of following the ordinary, DERMATHOD seeks to offer fresh, differentiated experiences that stand out in the skincare world.

'Cosmetics' represents the very essence of the brand. No matter how innovative, great skincare must deliver real, visible benefits. DERMATHOD focuses on scientific research and heartfelt dedication to reveal the skin’s natural beauty.

'Convenience' reflects our commitment to being user-friendly. I believe that even the best products must be easy and enjoyable to use consistently—especially in today’s busy lifestyles. That’s why DERMATHOD products are designed as simple yet effective solutions.

Finally, 'Consumers' represent our focus on response and understanding the market. We listen attentively to our customers and adapt to evolving trends, ensuring that Dermathod grows together with those whom we serve.



What’s your favorite product from your line?

The ‘DERMA EZ JET Multi Effector Ampoule’ holds a special place in my heart—it was the first product born from DERMATHOD, crafted with every bit of my expertise and passion. I designed it to represent my vision of fundamental skincare and to become the best cosmetic for effective anti-aging and skin innovation for everyone.

The ‘Derma Priming Peel Booster’, meanwhile, offers a swift yet powerful transformation. Every time I use it, I picture my tired skin evolving overnight, just like a cocoon becoming a butterfly.

I hope DERMATHOD inspires you to greet your best ‘tomorrow.’



Where do you see DERMATHOD in 10 years?

Over the next 10 years, I expect DERMATHOD to grow beyond a typical skincare brand to become a leading name at the forefront of skin science and innovation. With our blend of technology and refined elegance, I hope DERMATHOD will be recognized and cherished globally as a premium derma-cosmetic brand.

I envision our unique technologies and scientific approaches gaining respect worldwide, growing into a brand that thoughtfully addresses individual skin concerns across diverse cultures and lifestyles.

Above all, I hope DERMATHOD will be remembered as a brand that embodies innovation, sophistication, trust, and the essence of K-Beauty. Moving forward, I look forward to evolving with our customers and becoming a beloved global brand that delivers deep, meaningful impact in skincare.



What do you think 2026 will bring for Korean skincare?

To be honest, I don’t think I have any special insight into predicting the future market. Thankfully, many experts out there focus on forecasting, and I’m grateful for their work!

What I have to do—and truly hope—is that DERMATHOD becomes at the center of those changes and advancements.

I expect 2026 to bring significant evolution in Korean skincare, driven by derma-cosmetics, personalized skin science solutions, and the integration of cutting-edge technology and beauty devices.

DERMATHOD aims to lead this wave by continuing to provide innovative experiences and trusted skincare products to our customers.



What’s your skin routine?

My skincare routine is simple, but absolutely essential:

 • In the morning: Moist Morning Touch Foam Cleanser → Derma Revive Healer Gel → Amisterol Cream → Derma Saver Sun Protection

 • In the evening: Derma Revive Cleansing Gel → Derma Priming Peel Booster → EGF Multi Effector Ampoule → Med Shield Epidermal Cream(I use the DERMATHOD EZ JET with Triple Action Mask once a week.)

By the way, I use Derma Saver Sun Protection the most, especially since I exercise outdoors every morning.I feel so fortunate to be the CEO of a skincare company; otherwise, I doubt I’d be able to keep up with using so many great products every day!Consistency and simplicity—those are my secrets to healthy skin.
