What is photodynamic activation?

Posted by Sarah Kinsler-Holloway on

Photodynamic activation refers to a process in which certain ingredients—often photosensitizers—are activated by specific wavelengths of light, triggering a beneficial cellular response. In the case of Inflacure, chlorophyll is the key ingredient doing this work.

When applied to the skin and followed with LED therapy (particularly red, blue or near-infrared wavelengths), chlorophyll acts like a solar panel—absorbing light energy and converting it into a biochemical signal that the skin can use.

Once activated, chlorophyll doesn’t just sit on the skin’s surface—it helps the skin metabolize light energy into a cascade of positive effects. This includes:

  • Calming inflammation by modulating cytokine activity

  • Improving oxygenation in the skin tissues

  • Accelerating wound repair and post-procedure healing

  • Enhancing microcirculation, which improves nutrient delivery and detoxification

  • Supporting skin immunity by balancing oxidative stress

In essence, you're giving the skin a targeted energy and treatment boost.

KrX formulates the Inflacure line specifically to work in tandem with light therapies, making it a perfect post-procedure partner or part of a targeted acne/rosacea facial. While many chlorophyll-based products exist, few are as precisely engineered for professional use. Inflacure’s formulations focus on bioavailability, soothing actives, and barrier-supporting ingredients—making it ideal for sensitive, compromised, or reactive skin types.

If you haven't tried Inflacure yet, definitely make sure to check out our many protocols in the Kin Academy which is found once logged in under Education + Resources
