Celebrating National Esthetician Month: Why We Love What We Do

Posted by Sarah Kinsler-Holloway on

It’s October 1st, which means it’s National Esthetician Month (as we like to call it!), and we couldn’t be more excited. This is a time to reflect on what makes our work so fulfilling and to share that joy with all of you. Whether you're new to the industry or have been at it for years, there’s something special about what we do that goes far beyond skincare treatments. We hope this post resonates with you, inspires you, and reminds you of why you started in the first place.

We Make Real Changes in Skin—and Lives. One of the most rewarding parts of being an esthetician is witnessing the transformations our clients experience. It’s not just about the skin; it’s about confidence, well-being, and helping people feel good in their own bodies. We have the privilege of being part of that journey, which makes the work we do so much more meaningful. Whether it’s clearing up acne, restoring barriers, or simply giving someone the relaxation they desperately need, we make an impact.

We Build Lasting Relationships. There’s a unique bond that forms between an esthetician and a client. We often see our clients more regularly than they see their extended families! Over time, we become trusted advisors, confidants, and sometimes even friends. We learn about their lives, listen to their stories, and share in their personal victories and challenges. These relationships are built on trust, care, and a genuine desire to help. There’s nothing quite like it.

We Get to Think Critically and Creatively. Every client is unique, and so are their skin concerns. We strengthen our critical thinking skills as we connect the dots between treating skin holistically. Whether it’s understanding how a client’s diet, stress levels, or environment might be affecting their skin or figuring out how to combine treatments for the best results, we’re constantly thinking on our feet. It’s a beautiful blend of science, art, and intuition.

Freedom to Make Our Own Schedules. For those of us who are solo estheticians, the freedom to create our schedules is one of the most empowering aspects of this career. We get to live life on our own terms, balancing work with the things we love. Whether you’re an early riser or a night owl, you have the flexibility to build a routine that suits your life and your goals. And let’s be honest—there’s nothing quite like the freedom to decide when, where, and how you work.

The Endless Opportunities for Growth. In our industry, learning never stops. From new technologies to innovative skincare techniques and products, there’s always something new to discover. This constant evolution keeps things exciting and allows us to stay at the forefront of helping our clients in the best possible way. Plus, as we grow in knowledge, we grow our businesses, opening doors to new opportunities, whether it’s expanding services or deepening our expertise in a niche area.

We’re Part of a Supportive Community. The esthetician community we've built is one of the most supportive and uplifting out there, as least we like to think so. We share tips, celebrate each other’s successes, and lend a hand when things get tough. Being part of this tribe is like having an extended family that understands the ins and outs of what we do. We lift each other up and inspire each other to keep going, even on the hardest days.

So, to all of our fellow estheticians, take a moment to celebrate the incredible work you do. You’re changing lives, one treatment at a time, and that’s something to be proud of. Let’s continue to inspire, grow, and uplift each other—not just this month, but every day.
