Bioherb Derma Plus: A Self-Activating Galvanic and Lamellar Retinoid Therapy

Bioherb Derma Plus: A Self-Activating Galvanic and Lamellar Retinoid Therapy

Posted by Sarah Kinsler-Holloway on

Bioherb Derma Plus represents an innovative formulation that combines self-activating galvanic microcurrent technology, lamellar barrier-mimicking delivery systems, and spicule-based transdermal penetration enhancement.

KrX's new Bioherb formula utilizes hybrid technologies that merge principles of electrotherapy, barrier biomimetics, and novel drug delivery systems. Traditional galvanic therapies require external devices to generate microcurrents for ionic penetration and lymphatic stimulation. Bioherb Derma Plus employs a self-activating galvanic mechanism within its formula, eliminating the need for instrumentation.

Additionally, the lamellar emulsion system mimics stratum corneum lipid bilayers, increasing compatibility and active delivery. The inclusion of spicule technology further enhances percutaneous absorption through mechanical microchannels.

Formulation Information

  • Hydrolyzed Sponge (Spicules, 3,000 ppm): Provides microneedle-like stimulation, increasing penetration depth of actives.

  • Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate and Dimethyl Isosorbide Retinoate: Next-generation retinoids delivering collagen-stimulating and epidermal renewal benefits with reduced irritation compared to retinol or tretinoin.

  • Centella Asiatica, Panthenol, Betaine, Allantoin: Soothing and reparative botanicals and osmolytes counterbalance retinoid irritation.

  • Ferments (Lactobacillus, Sphingomonas): Provide postbiotic skin microbiome support and antioxidative activity.

  • Cynanchum Atratum Extract: A traditional botanical with reported anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties.

Mechanism of Action

  • Self-Activating Galvanic Microcurrent
Upon contact with skin moisture, electrolytes within the formula generate a mild galvanic current. This promotes microcirculation, supports lymphatic flow, and improves cellular metabolism, mimicking traditional galvanic device outcomes.

  • Spicule-Assisted Penetration
Hydrolyzed sponge spicules penetrate the superficial epidermis, creating transient microchannels. This mechanical stimulus increases dermal bioavailability of retinoids and co-actives, functioning analogously to microneedling.

  • Lamellar Delivery System
By replicating the lipid organization of the stratum corneum, the lamellar formulation improves tolerance, ensures active compatibility, and reinforces barrier integrity, even in sensitive skin types.

  • Retinoid-Induced Renewal
Hydroxypinacolone retinoate activates retinoic acid receptors, stimulating collagen synthesis, epidermal turnover, and pigment regulation, while minimizing the irritation profile typically associated with retinoids.

Clinical Application in Esthetics

Sample Pro-Aging (anti-aging) Protocol Integration:

  1. Cleanse, we recommend KrX Youthplex Cleansing Fluid for best results
  2. Exfoliate if needed - Blue Peel or a Gentle Enzyme Cleanser are recommended
  3. Apply Vtox (4 to 5 syringes) to skin using upward strokes with your favorite fan brush. You may apply additional layers for an extra tightening effect.
  4. Let mask fully dry for 15 to 20 minutes. A fan will expedite the process.
  5. Rehydrate the mask with a mask brush and water or Face Lift Toning Solution.
  6. Remove mask with warm damp towel
  7. Apply two pumps of Bioherb Derma Plus, and follow with Youthplex Face Cream and SPF
