Sunburns can be a contraindication for a lot of facial treatments, however, I am not one to easily turn a client away. So over the years I've created some go-to treatments to help expedite the healing of sunburns.
We are guardians of skin health, so I know you're well aware of the importance of sun protection + post-sun care. However, you may be new to Kin Aesthetics, or professional Korean skincare in general, and if so, this blog is for you!
Here are some of my favorite go-to Korean products for sunburns:
Gentle Cleansing: Start the healing process by choosing a gentle cleanser which won't further strip the skin. Corthe's Cleansing Milk is often my go-to. It's hydrating, and soothing to the skin. I like to follow with the Soothing Toner, or the new Soothing Toner Pads by Corthe. This instantly brings down the temperature of the skin.
Hydration Heroes: Dehydration is a common aftermath of sunburns, so it's essential to replenish lost moisture. Treatments which will help restore the skin's natural moisture barrier and promote hydration from within include Inflacure, Cryofacial Caps (both soothing + hydrating) and Corthe Soothing Gel Mask.
Cooling Comfort: Combat the heat and discomfort of sunburns with cooling solutions such as the Cryofacial Caps (mentioned above) or sheet masks like Cica and Tranexamic Acid. Both Cica and Tranexamic Acid have the remarkable ability to reduce heat in the skin. These products offer instant relief upon application, soothing the skin and alleviating discomfort.
Anti-inflammatory Allies: Cica, chamomile, calendula, and rice ferment extract are your go-to ingredients for calming inflamed skin and reducing redness. Try Corthe's Soothing Toner Pads, and KrX's Cica Recovery bundle.
Protect and Prevent: Help replace and courage ceramide production with Corthe's Rich M Cream. And don't forget to encourage clients to use broad-spectrum sunscreen and to reapply it generously throughout the day, especially during prolonged sun exposure. Curious to know why Korean sunscreens are so popular? We have a blog on that!
Hoping this was helpful! As estheticians, we have the privilege and responsibility of guiding our clients through their skincare journey, especially when it comes to post-sun care.
